About Mr. Caro

Mattias and his wife, Katheryn, live with their four children in Hamilton, Virginia. All four of the kids attend Good Shepherd School, including his oldest who is now the last remaining of the first eleven original students enrolled in the school’s first year.

His family is originally from Santiago, Chile, and while born here, he was raised in a bi-lingual household in Great Falls, Virginia. He is a graduate of the Heights School in Potomac, MD (where he took four years of Latin and two of Greek), has his BA in History from the College of William and Mary, his MA in Moral Theology from Christendom, and his JD from George Mason University. He is an active member of the Virginia State Bar and Catholic Bar Association.

Mattias has taught in a variety of settings including The American School in Switzerland, and since 2014 has taught at the Well-Trained Mind Academy, where he is the chair of the History, Social Sciences, and Electives Department. His current course load includes logic-stage Early Modern and Modern History, and rhetoric-level Government, Economics, Life Skills, Philosophy and Ethics, Kinesiology and Nutrition, and a class on the Introduction to Legal Studies. Reluctantly, he still practices law part-time in estate planning and small corporate advising, including Catholic higher education and non-profit institutions. Katheryn is a Physician Assistant at Loudoun Valley Family Practice.

He and his wife have been involved in founding several charitable activities and educational ventures, including being there at the beginning of Good Shepherd School. Most recently, Mattias established the Saint Thomas More Guild for Catholic Legal Professionals in the Diocese of Arlington.

In their spare time, the Caro family loves to garden, watch travel videos, watch Mattias lift occasional heavy objects, and avoid getting bitten and smacked by the family pet Felix. His wife and children care for the family's five chickens who to date have laid zero eggs.
